Religion and America Empty
PostSubject: Religion and America Religion and America EmptyMon Mar 02, 2009 11:27 pm

America is based off of Christianity. When our forefathers came to this "new land" the book out of all others they brought with them was the bible. A new country and a new form of Christianity!! I have always wondered why it is such a big deal. It is as if everything in America is based on that ,and in Tennessee part of the bible belt there seems to be a church on every street if not two! In some schools they have the ten commandments in the halls. If I remember correctly on the matter then is not suppose to be anything about religion, besides the history of it and the choice of class that is affiliated with religion, because we have a freedom of religion in this country. I really feel that if they put all this stuff up in our schools then our child will be zoned in to one religion and not have the true choice of all the wonderful and beautiful religions in this world.
Religion and America Empty
PostSubject: Re: Religion and America Religion and America EmptyThu Mar 05, 2009 5:51 pm

I concure. There are way too many things that can draw a person to only view this one religion. I am a christian. But, I made that decision with some knowledge of what else was out there, and have since learned even more. Other religions are quite beautiful in many ways. Hinduism, Buddhism, they all have something. Now, it is actually illegal to put the ten comandments in schools, and honestly, that wouldn't be the issue I had with it. Communities are mostly based around one thing. One religion. Mormon communities, Muslim, Jewish, protestant... Different denominations can get along, as long as they are the same religion, but to be of a separate religion is the minority. Well, that is the way it works. I have no problem with that. But then we never, ever pay any attention to any other religions. We never hear about them. we shelter ourselves from them. Which would be fine...except that we pretend like we want to educate ourselves. Well, we are made to learn other languages. There are many reasons for that. And for all of them, we should also learn other religions. Communication with people of other cultures would be a lot more smooth if we knew more about them. Also, learning another language forces us to learn how to think in a way we usually don't. Well, learning about other religions can bring topics of faith one has never thought of before to the table. Confusionism is like an ancient version of sociology in my opinion, and it really does make you consider certain things about how to run a society. If you agree, then take that into acount as you run your life. if you don't, then at least you know more about the reasons why you lead your life. So show the ten commandments in school! And while your at it, show the five commandments of Islam, and the code of Hamarabi because it's a legal document! The ten commandments were laws. something people often forget about religions, is that they were not always simply stories of magical prics with powers, but that they told you how to live your life and why! Why should one not harm another? Why should one man have power over another? I don't belive he should. Neither did a hindu prince, so he founded buddhism.
But I should really stop ranting. read and respond.

I actually agree with you all that religion should be out of school unless you count the pledge which has under god in it that should stay because it is a pledge to america and hasn't been changed in since america was founded. but i do think that religion has become notnhing in america , i mean most the christians you see are only putting up an act and they other religgions probly pretend as well most of america when you get to it are athiestest which make me wonder how did we fall like that? i mean you have to believe that something or someone or somethings or some people created stuff right something more powerful that man kind but i am starting to rant about a lot of stuff that could send me on millions of rabbit trails but read and tell me what you think

People who fake having a religion are idiots in there own way. Why would you want to say i believe in god just so everyone can accept you? If someone says that they are your friend then you tell them the truth about it and they leave most of the time cause they were only your friend because you believe in "same thing". Most people just say that cause they take religion so litely. Athiestest only see reality and can't see passed it, but that doesn't mean that they are bad people.

All of people don't have a choice because their parent only teach them about one religion then they get mad when their kids find other ways of believe. It is jus how religion works really people go to they first answer they see must of the time. How can you blame them, tho. It is a scary world out there, and you need something to give you hope.
